Melkio is an Italian artist born in Genova in 1984. He describes his passion for drawing in the simplest way:
“Since I have memories, I’ve always had a pencil in my hand and a piece of paper to scribble on. For me, it’s the most natural thing in the world—I’ve always taken it for granted.”
This deep-rooted creativity has led Melkio to explore various mediums and fields, always staying true to his identity. His motto, FANTASTIFARE SINCE 1984, glows in neon inside his studio—a playful fusion of “fantasticare” (to fantasize) and “fare” (to do), reflecting his imaginative yet action-driven approach.
Melkio’s artistic universe is defined by bold lines, minimal colors, and a constant dialogue between himself, the observer, and his characters. His evolving style sits comfortably within the realm of Pop Surrealism, where his works captivate viewers through strong outlines, striking contrasts, and a refined palette of black, white, and primary colors.
Though often compared to Keith Haring—a connection he acknowledges but doesn’t fully embrace—Melkio’s vision is uniquely his own. His work resonates with echoes of Jacovitti, Mordillo, Escher, De Chirico, Munari, and Osvaldo Cavandoli, yet his vibrant, imaginative world remains distinct and unmistakably Melkio.
